Animal Control/AWOL Humane Society

Animal Control for the City of Independence is handled through the Independence Police Department. Complaints or concerns regarding animals can be reported to the Independence Police Department calling 620-332-1700 anytime.

Animal control consists of 1 employee. Normal operational hours are Monday through Friday  7 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, hours of operation may vary depending on need. Residents may also call and request traps be set in the area for nuisance animals such as skunks, stray cats and dogs etc. The animal control officer not only enforces the city ordinances concerning animals but also investigates cases of animal cruelty and vicious animals.
