Animal Control for the City of Independence is handled through the Independence Police Department. Complaints or concerns regarding animals can be reported to the Independence Police Department calling 620-332-1700 anytime.
Responsibilities
Animal control consists of 1 employee. Normal operational hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, hours of operation may vary depending on need. Residents may also call and request traps be set in the area for nuisance animals such as skunks, stray cats and dogs etc. The animal control officer not only enforces the city ordinances concerning animals but also investigates cases of animal cruelty and vicious animals.
Includes spay or neuter, shots, worming, rabies and city tag.
Cats/Kittens - $70

Refundable spay and neuter deposit of $30 required on all animals under 4 months of age.
Reclaim
Reclaim fees:
$5 per day
It is a state requirement that AWOL cannot place an animal up for adoption until it has met a 3 day grace period. This gives the owner time to come reclaim a lost pet.

AWOL offers a low cost spay and neuter program for Montgomery County Residents. This program is to help pet owners prevent unwanted litters.
