Late-summer street projects getting underway
In the coming weeks, City street paving projects will be underway across the Independence community. Citizens can expect to see the following work in progress in the near term:
- Oak Street between Penn Avenue and 13th Street: Milling work is set to begin immediately, and overlay work is scheduled in the coming days. City Engineer John Garris explained that, due to this week’s rain, the project has been slightly delayed and is not expected to be completed prior to the start of the school year. However, crews will schedule work outside of peak school drop-off and pick-up times to avoid traffic interruptions. Temporary pavement markings will be added to the street initially, with permanent markings expected to be installed later in August.
- Main Street between 2nd Street and 8th Street: Milling, overlay and paving work is planned in the month of September. Crews will work primarily during evening and nighttime hours to minimize impact on traffic flow.
Motorists are asked to exercise caution and patience in all work zones.
