City statement regarding Memorial Hall closure related to COVID-19

From: David Cowan, Assistant City Manager/Emergency Manager

Due to staffing issues related to COVID-19, Memorial Hall and the Independence Civic Center will be closed to the public for the next few weeks, with the exception of a handful of events on the facility’s schedule, reports Independence Assistant City Manager/Emergency Manager David Cowan.

Cowan said the building will undergo a thorough cleaning and sanitization process, and temporary staffing will be arranged for the private events and public meetings upcoming on the schedule, including the Independence City Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 19.

“We appreciate the community’s continued understanding as we make adjustments to normal operations during this unprecedented pandemic,” Cowan said.
