Gremlins have struck the City of Independence’s Sanitation Department again. Currently two sanitation trucks are down due to mechanical issues. Good news is one truck is due back into service either later today or Friday. If the truck is returned today, this week's trash should be picked up by end of the day Saturday. If not returned until Friday, it will be Monday before all this week's trash will be picked up.
Tuesday’s route is currently being worked. Sanitation staff is using a 1-ton truck to pick up trash, therefore only bagged trash is being removed at this time as staff is unable to dump the poly carts.
The City of Independence appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding. The city also wants to acknowledge our employees for their outstanding efforts. This group of dedicated employees have been thrown several curve balls lately, but they continue to work through these adversities. The silver lining is the City’s new trash truck is scheduled to be delivered within the next few weeks.
