🌟 Get Involved! Serve on the Independence Recreation Commission 🌟

Are you passionate about parks, recreation, and making a difference in our community? The City of Independence is now accepting applications to fill an open seat on the Independence Recreation Commission effective July 1, 2025, and we’re looking for community-minded individuals to step up and serve!

What does the Recreation Commission do?
This volunteer board helps guide the City’s supervised recreation system—shaping programs, overseeing facilities, and working to ensure that residents of all ages have access to quality recreational opportunities.


✅ Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of the City of Independence

  • Must be a registered voter within city limits

  • A strong interest in recreation, community wellness, or youth and family engagement is encouraged


🕒 Time Commitment:

Members meet once a month, with additional involvement for community initiatives and special events.


🎯 Why You Should Apply:

  • Champion recreation and community engagement

  • Represent the voice of Independence residents in shaping public programs
