Independence Assistant City Manager Kelly Passauer has announced the selection of Mike Borovetz as the new City Clerk/Director of Finance, beginning Monday.

An Independence native, Borovetz has worked for the past two years as a private financial consultant in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was previously employed as the director of finance for Watco Transportation Services in Pittsburg; as a financial analyst for CRM Operating, Inc., in Cherryavale; and as a business development and portfolio manager for Goldleaf Financial Solutions, Inc., in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Borovetz is a graduate of Pittsburg State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He also attended the American Bankers Association Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he studied commercial lending and bank management.

“Mike brings several years of experience in financial management to this position, and we’re pleased to welcome him back to Independence,” Passauer said.

His duties will include administrative and accounting work and directing all financial functions of the city, as well as maintenance of official city records. He will be responsible for preparation of the annual budget, and will supervise the issuance of business licenses and permits and manage all minutes and records of the Independence City Commission.

Borovetz said, “Being part of the Independence community for much of my life, I know it will be a rewarding opportunity to return and help make a difference in the performance of the city and to all that reside in and visit Independence.”
