Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program

The Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program is a federally funded home funds program where grant funds are annually awarded by the State of Kansas through a competitive application process. These funds are used to make housing affordable, within the City limits of Independence, for income eligible families, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities. This program provides rental assistance payments directly to the landlord to help families pay their rent. The amount of subsidy is the difference between 30% of the family’s adjusted income and the applicable payment standard. Only the tenant may apply for the subsidy.
