With sincere regret, the City of Independence confirms the death of a temporary city worker in a one-vehicle truck accident east of Independence today.
Independence Interim City Manager Kelly Passauer said the truck was traveling east on U.S. 160 Highway en route to the county landfill when it left the roadway shortly after noon today. Two workers, both temporary employees in the city’s Sanitation Department, were traveling in the vehicle. The second employee also was injured in the accident and was transported to a medical facility for care. His condition is unknown at this time.
“There are not enough words to fully express our sympathy to the family of the man who was lost today,” Passauer said. “We offer our deepest condolences upon his passing and prayers for strength and a full recovery for our injured team member.”
Passauer said, at this time, the cause of the accident is uncertain, but she and her fellow city leaders will work in full cooperation with law enforcement and all relevant regulatory agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident.
