Brush Pickup Update:
The Street Department has been working diligently to complete brush pickup from the October 2020 ice storm. However, due to staffing issues related to COVID-19 this has taken longer than expected. We are allocating resources and equipment from our Street, Water-Sewer, and Cemetery departments together on December 28-30 to expedite this pick-up effort.
The area left to pick up brush from the Ice Storm is Area 12, which is north of Oak Street.
Please place all tree limbs in the grass area along the street curb in front of your house.
Residents South of Oak Street have already been canvassed and should call in their brush pickups to the City Clerk’s office during office hours at 620-332-2500 option 2, or through the webpage so a work order can be scheduled for pickup. The link to request this service is: http://www.independenceks.gov/requesttracker.aspx
Leaf Pickup Update:
Leaf pickup is currently in Area 10 and moving from West to East, with Area 11 and 12 to finish. The revised schedule for those areas is as follows:
Area 10 – December 22nd – 26th
Area 11 – December 29th – January 4th
Area 12 – January 5th – 8th
We apologize for the delays with brush and leaf pickup and the reduced office hours. Unfortunately, limited staffing due to COVID-19 has impacted many City departments. Thank you for your patience, and we wish you a safe and happy holiday season.
