[ARCHIVED] Groundbreaking set for Fire/EMS facility expansion

04252022 Fire-EMS Groundbreaking

The public is invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony Monday at 10:30 a.m. to launch an expansion project for the City’s Fire/EMS apparatus facility at 900 W. Myrtle. The event will include a welcome message from Mayor Dean Hayse and remarks from Fire/EMS Chief Shawn Wallis and representatives from TreanorHL, the project’s architecture firm, and McCownGordon, the construction company.

The expansion project will add 10,950 square feet to the existing facility, providing a drive-through bay for the department’s Tower 1 fire truck and new areas for supplies; equipment cleaning and disinfection; living quarters; offices; training space; and a fitness room.

“This project ultimately will help our crews improve efficiency and service to the community, with all our necessary equipment and functions in one facility,” said Fire/EMS Chief Shawn Wallis. “It also will solidify this spot as our permanent headquarters, which is ideal thanks to its central location. Our crews are looking forward to being settled here.”
